Can I walk on my polycarbonate roof to clean it?

No, usually not. Polycarbonate sheets are flexible and can break or pop out of the profiles, resulting in life-threatening situations. Always use a telescopic pole to work from the ground or a stable ladder (at the side).

How do I prevent scratches on plastic sheets?

Never use a scouring pad or a hard street broom. Always use a soft wash brush with a water supply. The water provides a gliding layer that prevents scratches caused by sand.

How do I get green algae out of the multiwall sheets (inside)?

If there is green algae inside the sheets, the tape or sealant edge is likely leaking and moisture is getting in. Unfortunately, you cannot wipe this away. You will have to remove the sheets (or have them removed) to flush them out or replace them. Regularly cleaning the outside and checking the seals prevents this problem.

Can I use a pressure washer?

We strongly advise against this. The powerful jet can damage the UV coating of polycarbonate and spray water under the sealing rubbers, causing leaks. A water-fed brush at standard tap water pressure is safe and effective.

Whether your roof is glass or polycarbonate (multiwall sheets), the material is delicate. A pressure washer is out of the question — it damages the surface and the seals — and a stiff broom scratches:

How to clean a polycarbonate or glass roof in 4 steps

Follow these steps for a clear roof with no scratches or streaks.

Remove loose debris

First, clear leaves, twigs and pine needles off the roof so you don't drag grit across the panels. Use the Cobweb Brush Pro on your pole, or sweep the roof dry with a soft brush.

Lather up and let it soak

Don't scrub green algae off — soak it off. Connect the SoapFlow soap dispenser with Allround Cleaner, cover the roof in a thick layer of foam and leave it for 5 minutes. Don't let it dry in full sun.

Brush lane by lane

Extend the pole and brush the panels clean one lane at a time. Start at the top by the house wall and work towards the gutter. Rinse with plenty of water through the pole, cleaning the aluminium glazing bars as you go.

Rinse streak-free

On a glass roof, you don't want to look up at dried limescale drops: rinse with the PureFlow water softener. Polycarbonate? Rinse thoroughly and make sure no soap is left in the profiles.
