Clean window frames, doors and exterior woodwork

Clean window frames, doors and exterior woodwork

Timber soffits, fascias, dormers and window frames give your home character — but wood is vulnerable. Green algae, moss and fine dust attack your paint and the wood beneath it. Knowing how to clean window frames and exterior woodwork properly protects both.

Safely from the ground, to protect your woodwork

Why cleaning exterior woodwork is so important

Many homeowners wash their windows but skip the soffits and bargeboards because they can't reach them. A costly mistake:

Wood rot from moisture: moss and algae trap moisture, so the wood never dries out. That leads to soft timber and, eventually, wood rot.

Flaking paint: dirt eats into the paint. It loses its protective effect, cracks and peels.

High repair costs: replacing rotten fascias or having a dormer repainted costs thousands. Regular washing costs a fraction of that — twice a year (spring and autumn) adds years to the life of your paintwork.

The secret weapon: the 5-Sided Wash Brush

How do you reach the soffits up at the gable? A ladder is unstable at height, and hiring an access platform is expensive. The answer is a water-fed telescopic pole — but woodwork calls for a specific brush.

Window frames, soffits and trims have corners, edges and profiles, where a flat brush is awkward. Eagle Extend® recommends the 5-Sided Wash Brush, with bristles on the sides and even on top of the edge. In one stroke, you clean the flat surface and the raised edges — no more green lines in the corners. Combined with the rigid Carbon Fiber pole, you can apply pressure with ease, and thanks to HexaLock® the brush won't twist away under the eaves.

Do the maths: the pole pays for itself

A decorator or cleaning company for fascias and dormers can easily cost €150–250 a visit, including scaffolding or an access platform. After one or two cleans, a complete glass and woodwork set has paid for itself — and you can use the same set for windows and fascias.

Step by step

How to clean woodwork and soffits in 4 steps

With a little preparation, you protect both the paint and the wood. Here's how.

1

Pre-treat and lather up

Woodwork is often greasy and green from soot and algae. Fit the SoapFlow soap dispenser between your tap and the pole and fill it with Allround Cleaner.

2

Extend the pole

Stand the pole upright and extend it to the height you need; the SureLock™ clamps won't slip. Use the 5-Sided Wash Brush: thanks to the side bristles, you never knock a hard block against the paintwork.

3

Brush and foam

Apply a layer of foam, leave it for a moment (don't let it dry) and scrub thoroughly. The rigid pole lets you put real pressure on caked-on algae. Tip: do the underside of the soffits too — that's where cobwebs tend to hang.

4

Rinse clean

Switch off the soap and rinse with clean water. Doing the windows at the same time? The PureFlow water softener gives you a streak-free finish without limescale marks.
