Overview of all HexaLock® accessories: brushes, cobweb brush, duster, washer and fruit picker

Which brush do you need for your water-fed pole?

9 min read

For most water-fed pole work, the best brush is the Soft 4-Jet Wash Brush: it’s soft enough for glass and solar panels, and it comes with every pole. Add the 5-Sided Wash Brush for window frames and woodwork, the Hard 4-Jet for patio slabs and brick, and the SoftWash Brush for cars, caravans and boats.

The pole is only half the story. What’s on the end decides whether your windows come out streak-free and your solar panels stay free of scratches. A stiff brush on glass is just as wrong as a soft brush on green algae between patio slabs.

All Eagle Extend® attachments click onto the same HexaLock® connection, so you can mix and match and add more later. Below is the full range: what each attachment is for, which bristles it has and which surfaces to avoid. At the end, a table matches each job to the right attachment.

How the system works: HexaLock® and 4-Jet

HexaLock® is the hexagonal adapter system that clicks attachments firmly in place so they can’t turn. The hexagon is the whole point: a round connection twists under sideways pressure and sets your brush at an angle on the glass.

Swapping needs no tools: press the button, take the attachment off and push the next one on until you hear the click. That way you can go from wash brush to cobweb brush to duster in one round of the house. Everything fits all Eagle Extend® poles — aluminium, carbon fibre and 3K full carbon — and is sold separately under brushes and attachments. Still choosing a pole? 4-Jet means the brush head has four jets for better water distribution and more effective cleaning. That works differently from a bucket and scrubbing brush: the bristles loosen the dirt, and the four jets rinse it away before it’s dragged across the surface. The 5-Sided Wash Brush does the same with two recessed jets, which spread the water without splashing.

The four wash brushes: which bristles for what

There are four wash brushes. They differ mainly in how stiff the bristles are — and that’s exactly what decides which surfaces you can use them on.

  • Soft 4-Jet Wash Brush 35 cm. The standard brush that comes with every pole, suitable for almost every job. Soft nylon with memory: the bristles spring back into shape and don’t scratch. For windows, solar panels and plastic. These brushes are Solar Safe — they remove dirt without damaging the delicate anti-reflective coating on solar panels, as long as you use enough water.
  • 5-Sided Wash Brush Medium 28 cm. Five fully bristled brush faces with premium medium bristles all round: you clean corners, edges and the underside of a profile in one movement. Ideal for window frames and exterior woodwork. In normal use it won’t damage paintwork — the bristles are designed to put as little stress on paint as possible.
  • Hard 4-Jet Wash Brush 35 cm. Stiff, hard-wearing bristles for maximum scrubbing power, with the same four water jets. The brush for patio slabs and brick, where softer brushes fall short. See patio cleaning.
  • SoftWash Brush. Extra-soft, flagged (finely split) bristles, scratch-free and deliberately without jets. Made for paintwork, plastic and gelcoat: cars, caravans and motorhomes and boats. Despite the name, it’s a soft brush — not the chemical ‘soft washing’ method used on roofs and walls.

The SoftWash has no jets on purpose: on vehicles you want the soapy water to stay on the paintwork for a moment to loosen the dirt, and jets would rinse the shampoo away too quickly.

Glass: wash brush or washer and squeegee?

For windows there are two routes. A water-fed brush is connected to the hose and scrubs and rinses at the same time — ideal with softened water from a PureFlow water softener, because you can then usually let the window dry on its own. A washer (known as an applicator in the US) is the white, fluffy sleeve window cleaners use: it holds a lot of soapy water and loosens stubborn dirt. For washing and squeegeeing, it’s essential.

The standard Soft 4-Jet Wash Brush is explicitly suitable for cleaning glass: soft bristles and four water jets clean windows and frames safely and evenly. If you prefer the traditional way, the Window Washer & Squeegee Set Pro is quicker: you wash the window, turn the pole slightly in your hands and squeegee it dry straight away with the same tool. More in high window cleaning and streak-free windows: why your water matters.

Dust, cobwebs and seasonal jobs

Not every job at height is a wet one. A large part of the range works dry.

  • Cobweb Brush Pro. Large head for the rough work: cobwebs and dust strands on ceilings, walls, corners and under the eaves. See removing cobwebs and dust.
  • Duster Pro. Bendable head you shape yourself, with soft fibres that pick up dust. For places where a cobweb brush is too coarse or too big.
  • Microfibre Duster Pro. Anti-static microfibre against airborne dust, also with a bendable head. Washable and reusable, for finer work indoors.
  • SolarClear Snow Remover. Soft 40 × 17 cm foam head that lets you pull and push snow. Scratch-free, for clearing snow from solar panels and veranda roofs.
  • Fruit Picker Pro. Curved metal prongs hook the fruit off, a soft foam rim prevents bruising and the open design lets you see what you’re doing. For apples, pears, plums and other firm fruit.
  • Boat Hook Pro. Sturdy hook for pulling, hooking and positioning at a distance, and for hanging lights and decorations from the ground.

The angle adapter: small part, big difference

For windows and solar panels, the angle adapter is essential: it sets the brush at the right angle to the surface while you stay on the ground. That’s why the adjustable HexaLock® angle adapter comes as standard with every pole; it’s also available separately as a replacement part.

With poles of 9 m (29.5 ft) and longer, you automatically get the extended Angle Adapter XXL. It adds extra distance between pole and surface, so the flexing pole doesn’t touch your panels and only the brush makes contact. When cleaning solar panels with a long pole, that’s the difference between a clean job and scratches. The XXL adapter is only suitable in combination with the Soft 4-Jet Wash Brush 35 cm.

Choose in four steps

  1. 1
Start with the most delicate surface

Look at which job has the most delicate surface — glass, panels or paintwork — and match your first brush to it. A brush that’s too soft on stone costs time; one that’s too stiff on paintwork causes damage.

  2. 2
    Decide: wet or dry

On the hose, you want jets. For dust or cobwebs, choose a dry attachment: a cobweb brush or a duster.

  3. 3
    Check the angle adapter

Windows and panels need an angle adapter in between; with poles of 9 m or longer, always the XXL version with the Soft 4-Jet.

  4. 4
    Add the rest later

All attachments are sold separately, so you can expand at your own pace. Not sure? Try the Pole Finder.

Building your set: kits and volume discount

If you have more than one job on your list, one attachment is rarely enough. There are two routes. The first: ready-made water-fed pole kits — a pole plus a matched set for glass and woodwork, for solar panels, for indoor dusting, or with the PureFlow water softener for fewer limescale marks.

The second route is building your own: buy more, save more. You get 35% off when you add three or more HexaLock® accessories to your basket — mix and match, so a SoftWash Brush, a cobweb brush and an angle adapter all count together. The basket works out the discount automatically. All eligible items are in accessories.
